A lot of parents send their children to Sunday school because they sense the need to provide some religious training for their children. But there is more to religious training than Sunday school. God tells parents themselves to teach His word to their children, He says, “These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart; and you shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up” (Deuteronomy 6:6-7). Yes, parents should take time each day to talk with their children about the things of God.
Unfortunately, too many parents do not spend any time at all teaching their children about God. Most moms and dads don’t teach the Bible at home. And so their children do not come to know God and do not learn the duty which God requires of them. The result is that many parents actually lead their children away from God. They don’t realize that God’s Son said, “He who is not with Me is against Me” (Matthew 12:30). Are you leading your children away from God?
What about you? You too need the life brought about by the word of God. Remember, Jesus said, “The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life” (John 6:63).
