Psalm 91

Psm 91The
following true story that I’m about to share with you is my testimonial to the
Lord’s incredible powers, a miraculous healing that the doctors could not explain,
and which I believe had something to do with my reading Psalm 91 that gave me
the strength to face my illness. After being diagnosed with CAD in May 1996, I
was advised that I needed triple bypass surgery as soon as possible.

My oldest
daughter at this time told me to start reading Psalm 91, which I did and still
read daily. I prolonged this surgery because I had advised my cardiologist that
I wanted a second opinion. I just could not believe this was happening to me,
even though I was having chest pains daily, and short of breath all of time, I
could not face the fact that I needed open heart surgery!

Cotton

Cotton Dollars

CottonI had my note sheet with several totals
that were quite a bit more than the twenty, one dollar bills I had rolled up in
my hand that held my pencil. Twenty one-dollar bills, my reward for picking a
ton of cotton which would wind up as one bale.

I went back over the racks of shirts
looking for some a little less expensive, writing the price down in the column.
Then to the pants, shoes, underwear, same thing. I could do without a new belt
as I could buy a smaller waist size and get by without one. The total was still
too high.

I sat down to rest in a chair used for
fitting shoes while staring at the holes in the knees of my pants. Those
weren’t holes I mused, there was only a strip of pants cloth two or three
inches wide holding the bottom of the pants on below my knees. The holes in the
toes my shoes gave witness that I still had ten of them. Worn from dragging the
cotton sack while on my knees for miles and miles down those hot dusty rows.

“Hi! Have you decided which items
you’d like to buy?” Mrs. Liebermann kindly asked.

Shipwrecked

An unruly student

ShipwreckedJames
Saunders of Bristol, England, was sent to Sunday School
when he was a young boy but he was very unruly and hard to control. The
teacher, Mr. Henry Poole, tried hard to teach him about the Lord, as well as to
control him, but nothing seemed to correct him.

James
disrupted the class, he talked, laughed, moved about and seemed to take no
notice of the lessons.  The teacher tried for a long time, but at last he
had to tell his parents that James would have to leave the Sunday School.

Nothing
was heard of James for about twenty years.  By this time Mr. Poole had
become a minister of a country church.  One day a man called to see him.
He said, “I suppose you have forgotten me?” Mr. Poole replied that he did not
remember seeing him.  “Do you remember James Saunders?” asked the
man.  “Yes, I do remember.  He gave me much trouble and anxiety. Do
you know him?” replied Mr. Poole.  “I am that lad, I am James Saunders”

Tractor

Never Alone

TractorIt was a beautiful spring day, and Bill Garvey, of White Lake, Michigan,
had decided to take a vacation day and get his garden ready to plant. Enjoying
the scent of morning grass, he jumped up on his tractor, an old International
Harvester model H, built sometime in the 1940’s. Old Betsy, as he called the
tractor, didn’t have hydraulics to lift up the implements like the new tractors
so Bill was using a double bottom, trailer plow instead. In this arrangement,
disks cut up the sod which is then turned over by the plow. The front tires are
close together, which causes the tractor to be tippy. But Bill wasn’t worried.
He and old Betsy had worked together for a long time, and what could go wrong
on such a simple job?

As Bill sat down on the fiberglass seat he had installed 10 years
earlier, it pinched his leg. “I should fix that crack,” Bill thought.
“But not today….” The garden area had two-foot-tall grass in it, and
was way overdue for shearing. Maneuvering the tractor, he drove it down the
hill with the plows cutting deep into the fresh ground, then raised the plow,
turned around, went back up the hill and did it again. But the tall grass was
getting caught and wrapped around the plow blades, and by the time Bill had
made the third pass, he needed to stop and clear off the plow, so it would turn
the sod over properly. “I carefully backed the tractor and plow back up
the hill I had just plowed,” Bill recalls. “Success! I was able to
push the grass off.”

Coffin

The burial

CoffinOne day all the employees
reached the office and they saw a big advice on the door on which it was
written:

“Yesterday the person
who has been hindering your growth in this company passed away. We invite you
to join the funeral in the room that has been prepared in the gym”.

In the beginning, they all
got sad for the death of one of their colleagues, but after a while they
started getting curious to know who was that man who hindered the growth of his
colleagues and the company itself.

The excitement in the gym
was such that security agents were ordered to control the crowd within the
room.  The more people reached the
coffin, the more the excitement heated up. Everyone thought: “Who is this guy
who was hindering my progress? Well, at least he died!”

Reaching

Can you see Heaven in tomorrow?

Reaching“Daddy, put me on
your shoulders and let me touch Grandma’s hand!” the little girl said.
Daddy bent down, turned her around, and lifted her high above his head until
she was safely positioned on his shoulders. “I can see tomorrow up here,
Daddy,” she said. “You can?” he asked. “What does it look
like?” he questioned her. “Just like today, but more pretty!”
she giggled. “Now hold on, Jenny. I’m going up on top of this hill. When I
tell you to, stretch your arms way up and you can touch her hand.” He
carefully walked up on top of the small hill just behind the bench I was
sitting on. The softball fans sit there each evening during the spring and
summer watching the local players compete. But today this hill served a higher
purpose. For this is a spot where memories are made. This is a moment between
parent and child that gets filed away in memories for tomorrows yet to come.
Perhaps when this young girl will hold her babe high upon her shoulders and
together they will reach for Grandpa’s hand, just like when she was a child. He
came down to where I was seated. His daughter played nearby. Her Daddy told me
afterwards that Jenny was very close to his Mom. She died a few months ago.
“Jenny said she wanted to hold hands with Grandma like she always did. I
told her Grandma was in heaven, out of reach,” he said. “Jenny told
me that heaven is in tomorrow. If she climbed way up high she could see it and
touch Grandma’s hand.”
