Whenever we travel as a family, I am concerned about the way the vehicle is going to work. Tooling down the highway at 75 miles per hour, a small failure could have big consequences. A tire blowout could cause an accident or a wiring failure could mean a fire. Engine failure could mean suffering for my passengers. In one sense, “it’s my job” to worry about these things, I’m “Dad”!On a trip to Florida, surrounded by heavy traffic, something happened I couldn’t control. We had just passed a long truck when one of his rear left tires exploded! The view in the mirror was of smoke and debris going all over both lanes. Just seconds before, we were right next to that tire.
The Lord had spared us! Such an experience causes one to think. The Christian should have the philosophy that his or her life is in God’s hands. Paul’s perspective was, “For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21). He didn’t have a loose philosophy about life. His whole life was tied up in his relationship to Christ.
What’s your attitude about life and death and God’s protection? As a believer, “to live is Christ.” He will keep you until the day when “to die is gain.”
