A diamond collector flew to New York one day to look at a fabulous diamond. When he arrived at the store the merchant put his best salesman on the task of showing the diamond. For many minutes the salesman described all of the technical qualifications of the precious stone. It was virtually flawless and would likely be worth much more than they were selling it for. The cut was perfect!
After a few moments the collector waved off the salesman and started to leave having decided not to buy the gem. The merchant stopped the collector and asked if he could show him the diamond again. Over the next few minutes he pointed out the great beauty, color, sparkle and perfection of the stone. He never once referred to the technical aspects of the diamond. When he was through the collector bought it on the spot. He then asked why the merchant was able to sell him the stone when the salesman had not. The answer, “I would pay my salesman twice as much if he just loved diamonds as much as I.”
The difference was love. Really do love God? Jesus must be the most important person in your life. Jesus said that if we are going to be His disciples you and I are to live like we are salt (Matt. 5:13), and light (Matt. 5:14-16). Our love for Jesus comes across to others. Just sharing the technical details often doesn’t bring people to the Lord. Having a real genuine love makes us a much better light.
