Every Good and Perfect Gift

My husband and I were going thru an extremely difficult financial time. A promising business deal that was started with a friend turned into a nightmare of epidemic proportion. Our marriage was on the rocks and neither of us were very happy or hopeful about much of anything. When angry words weren’t being spoken, there was either silence between us or words of necessity like “Dinner is at 6:00” or “The dog needs a walk’”. This was a problem that was not going to go away overnight. Everything seemed hopeless.
On one evening that the 2 of us were dutifully taking the dog a walk, we heard a crying noise off in the distance. As my husband walked towards the sound, he eventually came to a tree, and lo and behold there was a kitten who was quite scared. My husband grabbed him and walked toward me and said, what should we do with him? Too which I replied, lets take him home for tonight and tomorrow I’ll try and find out who he belongs to.
We brought him home, cleaned him fed him and of course fell madly in love with him. The next day I made up a flier and went door to door on the street where we found him, half heartedly looking for his owner. Thankfully, no one claimed him and after about a week, I felt it was safe to assume he was ours.
I had not owned a cat in many years and I had forgotten how playful and funny they were. We watched his every move with joy and complete adoration and just knew he was the cutest kitty on the face of the earth. He made us laugh together for the first time in a long time and gave us something positive to focus on. I knew without a doubt that the Lord had brought him as the medicine to heal our broken hearts. Amazingly, our relationship started getting better, even though the dire circumstances had not improved greatly.

After enjoying him for about a year, I started feeling like it would be nice for him to have a playmate. I secretly desired this but never verbalized it to my husband. Our current kitty was black and white and every time I imagined his playmate, I pictured a yellow tabby. I reasoned that I should be content with what I had, after all we now owned a dog and a cat, and it was foolish to have another kitty.

One evening I was making dinner and I heard our dog barking in the back yard. He seemed to be barking at a bush. I yelled for him to stop but he persistently continued, which was unlike him. He was normally very obedient so I went outside to see exactly what he was barking at. I looked into the bush and I saw what looked like tiny kitten clinging desperately to the branches for it’s life. This tiny creature was covered with dirt and quivering in fear. I pulled him out and took him into the house, yelling for my husband to come and look.
He was so small, that he fit into the palm of my hand. We decided, to clean him up because he was very dirty. As we washed him and his hair began to dry, what became obvious was that this very young kitten was a yellow tabby. We immediately went to the pet store and were told we had to bottle feed him because he was so young he wouldn’t eat or drink from a bowl. He was so adorable and we felt like we had a new baby in the house, once again, we were joyful and excited to have such an adorable addition to the family. He loved wrestling with the other cat and they would play for hours. I was overjoyed with his presence in our home and so was my husband.
Was this a coincidence that my secret desire for that yellow tabby was brought into reality? Absolutely not! It was truly God, listening to my hearts desire.
It never ceases to amaze me how much God cares and how he chooses to show us he cares. Even when we don’t make wise decisions and blame ourselves for those decisions, He is there waiting to cheer us up, and give us joy in the midst of the storm. What a reminder of how he sent His son to redeem us from our sin, set us free and give us joy and peace, in a world that has so many hardships. Praise Him for his goodness!
