Snow in the Driveway

Where Angels Walk

Snow in the DrivewayIt was cold and wintry, and Margaret
Larrivee’s husband had gone to Quebec
to visit his family. He would be home soon but now Margaret looked out the
window at the freshly fallen snow, and was concerned.   After his
long drive, she would have liked to greet him with a clean driveway. But due to
health problems, she was unable to shovel or lift heavy items.  Now she
wondered if he would be able to get the car into the driveway, or would the
heavy snow block his entry?

In a matter of minutes of having these
thoughts, a knock sounded at the door.  Margaret opened it to a young man
with a rather needy look about him. Being alone in the house, Margaret was
initially a little cautious, but almost immediately she felt an unexpected
peace.

“Could I shovel your
driveway?” the young man asked.

Advice

“Get Lost”

AdviceThere must be a sign hanging above my head that
reads, “I give advice!” No matter where I am I get into conversations
with people I don’t even know.

I’m not complaining. I’m grateful.

Just yesterday a man turned to me and said, “I
don’t know what to do with my time.”

“Get lost!” I told him.

“Well, that’s rude,” he said. “I
didn’t mean to bother you.”

“No, I really mean the answer to your question
is to get lost,” I explained.

“My wife tells me that all the time, but I
think she really means she wants me to get lost, don’t come back!” he said
laughing.

Mechanic

Deal or no deal?

A man entered my father’s diesel-repair shop, said he was a driver from a trucking fleet and suggested, “How about adding a few extra parts to the bill for this truck repair? We’ll let the company pay for it, and you and I can split the difference.” Dad refused, but

God and the spider

Inspire

In God’s Eyes

InspireBy the time I was ten, I was
totally ashamed of my father. All my friends called him names: Quasi-Moto,
hunchback, monster, little Frankenstein, the crooked little man with the
crooked little cane. At first it hurt when they called him those things, but
soon I found myself agreeing with them. He was ugly, and I knew it!

My father was born with something
called parastremmatic dwarfism. The disease made him stop growing when he was
about thirteen and caused his body to twist and turn into a grotesque shape. It
wasn’t too bad when he was a kid. I saw pictures of him when he was about my
age. He was a little short but quite good-looking. Even when he met my mother
and married her when he was nineteen, he still looked pretty normal. He was
still short and walked with a slight limp, but he was able to do just about
anything. Mother said, ‘He even used to be a great dancer.’

Science

Science vs. God

Science“Let me
explain the problem science has with Jesus Christ.” The atheist professor
of philosophy paused before his class and then asked one of his new students to
stand.

“You’re a
Christian, aren’t you, son?”

“Yes
sir,” the student answered.

“So you
believe in God?”

“Absolutely.”

“Is God
good?”

“Sure!
God’s good.”

“Is God
all-powerful? Can God do anything?” !

“Yes.”

“Are you
good or evil?”

“The Bible
says I’m evil”.

The professor
grinned knowingly. “Aha! The Bible!” He considered for a moment.

“Here’s one
for you. Let’s say there’s a sick person over here and you can cure him. You can
do it. Would you help him? Would you try?”

Gossip

The Peril of Gossip

Mildred, the church gossiper, and self-appointed monitor of the church’s morals, kept sticking her nose into other people’s business. Several members did not approve of her extra curricular activities, but feared her enough to maintain their silence. She made a mistake, however, when she accused John, a new member, of

Garment

The Beggar’s Rags

GarmentA beggar lived
near the king’s palace. One day he saw a proclamation posted outside he palace
gate. The king was giving a great dinner. Anyone dressed in royal garments was
invited to the party.

The beggar went
on his way. He looked at the rags he was wearing and sighed. Surely only kings
and their families wore royal robes, he thought. Slowly an idea crept into his
mind. The audacity of it made him tremble. Would he dare? He made his way back
to the palace. He approached the guard at the gate

“Please, sire, I would
like to speak to the king.”

“Wait
here,” the guard replied. In a few minutes, he was back. “His majesty
will see you,” he said, and led the beggar in.

“You wish
to see me?” asked the king.

“Yes, your
majesty. I want so much to attend the banquet, but I have no royal robes to wear.
Please, sir, if I may be so bold, may I have one of your old garments so that
I, too, may come to the banquet?” The beggar shook so hard that he could
not see the faint smile that was on the king’s face.
