HUSBAND: “Water in the carburetor? That’s ridiculous.”
WIFE: “I tell you the car has water in the carburetor.”
HUSBAND: “You don’t even know what a carburetor is. I’ll check it out. Where’s the car?”
WIFE: “In the pool.”
That gives a whole new meaning to the term “flooding the engine”! There are some things that are so obvious you don’t have to be an auto mechanic to be certain of them! And there are some things in the Bible that are so obvious that you don’t have to be a brain surgeon to be certain of them!
Five times in the “Pastoral Epistles”, Paul uses the phrase “faithful saying”. It indicates something you can be absolutely certain of, without question, beyond a shadow of a doubt. Here’s one of them:
“This is a faithful saying:
For if we died with Him, we shall also live with Him.
If we endure, we shall also reign with Him.
If we deny Him, He also will deny us.
If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself.”
(2 Timothy 2:11-13)
Praise be to our God who not only gives us “faithful sayings”, but who himself is “faithful”, one who can be trusted to keep his word, and in whom we have the ability to place all our confidence!
